Reading
This week students will be learning what characters in stories think and feel by observing what they say and do. We will be charting the way characters can change throughout the stories as well. Students will be listening to several stories about spring and Easter. Ask your child about a character they recall and how that character felt in the story.
Please be sure to read each evening. With spring in the air and added daylight, it's tempting to forego reading for playtime. Please keep reading a priority in your child's life. Return the book in the bag daily. Thanks so much!
Writing
We are finishing up a writing we started before spring break. Students have been working on an informative writing. They have gathered information from books from our library. This week they are composing sentences to share their learning. Students have created a title page, an author information page, and a diagram to accompany their work. The final copy will be coming home Friday. Students will continue informational writing in the month of April as well.
Word Study
This week's words include: rain, too, man, and words with the "long o" sound and words with "long i" sound. Examples are: so, no, cold and ride, white, and dime. *Please help your child use these words in sentences in their journals for practice.
Work on previously presented words to retain them.
Math
We are learning how to tell time to the hour and half hour this week. We continue to work on geometric shapes and fractions as well. Please talk about 2-D and 3-D shapes such as triangle, rectangle, square, circle, half circle, hexagon, sphere, cube, rectangular prism, triangular prism, cone, pyramid, cylinder, and hexagonal prism. Students should be able to identify each of these shapes. They should be able to identify a whole shape, one half, one third, and one fourth. Students should also remember how to measure a length using items such as paper clips or cubes. Thank you for helping to review these concepts at home.
Social Studies
We are wrapping up our brochure writing this week. Students have created brochures to highlight Hilliard Hotspots. We will be sharing these on Wednesday. We are still working on maps as our map projects are due Friday, April 4th. Thank you for helping your child create a wonderful map!
