Reading
This week we will continue to identify story parts which include the characters, setting, beginning, problem, and happy ending. Students will transition from identifying these elements through oral discussion to writing about them using a word bank. Students will listen to many seasonal stories as we learn about these important story parts.
Writing
Our opinion writing continues this week as we complete our opinions about the best season. Students will be able to share with peers as they evaluate their own writing using the rubric for opinion writing. Later this week, and early next week, students will have the opportunity to decide who has the more difficult job, Santa or the Tooth Fairy. This particular writing will wrap up December writing goals for us.

Math
This week we will be working on composing and decomposing numbers through 20. We will also be focusing on finding the unknowns in any position of a number sentence. This will lead into an understanding of fact families and an understanding of the interconnectedness of numbers.
Examples: __+5=10, 7+__=13, 5+7=__, 12-__=6, __-2=5, 16-8=__
Social Studies
We will be continuing our economics unit this week as we continue to make winter greeting cards to sell to the students of HCR. We will create a commercial to play on the morning announcements that will encourage students to support this effort. Proceeds will benefit the Hilliard City food pantry. Thank you so very much for sending in the great craft supplies in support of this project!
